Google Maps rank tracker
Track your Google Maps rankings across every grid point
One rank for a whole city is an average of neighbourhoods you win and neighbourhoods you have never appeared in. We check the same search term at dozens of points on the map and show you which is which.
Why one number is the wrong answer
Google decides map results partly on where the searcher is standing. Move a mile and the pack reorders. So the single position most rank trackers report is a measurement taken at one arbitrary spot, and it is equally capable of flattering you and of panicking you.
We do not report that number. A scan checks your term at every point of a grid centred on the business, and what comes back is a shape: the area you own, the edge where you fade, and the parts of town where a competitor has the pack to themselves. That shape is the thing you can act on, and it is the thing a client understands without a paragraph of explanation.
What a scan looks like
A 7 by 7 grid: 49 checkpoints across 6 miles, each one coloured by the position we found there.
What we record at every checkpoint
A rank is the headline. The useful part is everything sitting behind it.
Your position, point by point
We record where you sit in the map results at each of the 49 checkpoints, from first place down to twentieth. Below that we record that you were not there, which is a different fact from a bad rank and we colour it differently.
Who beat you, and where
Every checkpoint keeps the businesses Google actually returned at that spot. Click a pin and you get the list. A competitor who owns three suburbs and is invisible in the fourth is something you can see rather than infer.
The same keyword, over time
Scans stack up per business and per keyword, so a term you ran in March and again in August is two maps you can put beside each other instead of two screenshots you have to remember to take.
A link you can send
Publish a scan and it becomes a read-only page anyone can open without signing in. Nothing is public until you press that button, and unpublishing mints a new link rather than reviving the old one.
Three steps to your first map
- Find the business. Type its name. We search Google Maps and you pick it from the results, the same way a customer would find it. Nothing is connected and nobody is emailed.
- Choose the term and the area. One keyword, a grid size, and how far apart the points sit. We show you where the pins will land and what the scan will cost before you spend anything.
- Run it. Results fill in as they arrive. When it is done you have a map, a competitor list at every point, and a scan you can compare against next month.
What we deliberately do not ask you for
Most of the friction in local rank tracking is not the tracking.
- No Google login. We never need access to a client's profile, so you can track a business you are pitching as easily as one you manage.
- No per-location subscription. Add as many businesses as your book has. Plans meter scans, not rows.
- No onboarding wizard. Sign up, search a name, run a scan. Most people have a map on screen inside five minutes.
- No per-seat billing above Solo. Every plan from Agency upward takes as many teammates as you want to add.
What a scan costs
Credits are priced by the work: one credit is one checkpoint, so a 7 by 7 grid costs 49 of them and a wider grid costs proportionally more. Everywhere you read a balance we have already done that division for you and quoted it in scans.
Plans run from $19 a month for 91 scans up to $149 for 755, and every plan includes the whole product: white-label reports, client sharing, projects, the API and your team. See the pricing page for the grid.
Common questions
What is a Google Maps rank tracker?
It is a tool that checks where a business appears in Google's map results for a search term. MapRank checks one term at many points around the business rather than at a single location, because Google's map results change with the searcher's position: at 49 checkpoints across a 6-mile square you routinely see first place at one end and nothing at all at the other.
Do I need to connect a Google Business Profile?
No. We look a business up by name and address the way a searcher would, so you can track any business on Google Maps, including your prospects and your client's competitors. There is no OAuth screen, no ownership verification, and nothing to ask a client for before you can run the first scan.
How long does a scan take?
Minutes. Points come back as the worker finishes them, so the grid fills in while you watch rather than sitting on a spinner until every checkpoint is done.
How much does it cost to try?
Signing up grants 500 credits, which is 10 full 7x7 scans, and it does not ask for a card. Paid plans start at $19 a month.
Can I track more than one business?
Yes, and there is no per-business fee on any plan. What a plan meters is how many scans you run and how wide each one may be, not how many businesses sit in the list.
Run your first scan in the next five minutes
Search for a business by name, pick a keyword, and watch the map fill in. Nothing to connect and nothing to cancel.
